VAN WERT, OH, June 23, 2022 – Van Wert Forward is pleased to announce that the organization was awarded $1,560,000 in tax credits from the Ohio Department of Development for Phase Two of the project. The announcement came from Elyria, OH on June 22, 2022, that Van Wert is one of nineteen communities to receive funding from this round of historic tax credit funding. Six buildings owned by The Van Wert County Foundation were submitted for tax credit applications, and all six buildings of the prospective Phase Two were awarded credits.
111 W. Main St., previously Open Minded was awarded $185,000 of its $1,870,123 anticipated cost.
135-137 E. Main St., previously Pam’s School of Dance and Gibby’s Photograph was awarded $175,000 of its $1,772,007 anticipated cost.
101-107 E. Main St. (The Union Block), 147 E. Main St. (Schine Theater), and 223 E. Main St. (Taylor Flooring) were awarded $1,200.000 between the multitude of spaces of its anticipated $12,213,210 cost.
This round of historic tax credit applications awarded funds to 38 buildings in 16 counties. Van Wert Foward has previously received historic tax credits from the Ohio Department of Development for Phase One of the project. Phase One is currently underway and is scheduled to be finished in May 2023. Phase Two, which includes the abovementioned buildings, will begin shortly after Phase One finishes.
The abovementioned buildings will be a mix of commercial and mixed-use developments. 111 W. Main St., 135-137 E. Main St., and 101-107 W. Main St. (The Union Block) will feature a commercial first floor and residential units on the top floors. 147 E. Main St. and 223 E. Main St. will be renovated as exclusively commercial units possibly including a venue for live performances and a brewery respectively.
