Van Wert Forward Announces Start of Phase 2

Van Wert Forward Launches Phase 2: Revitalizing More of Downtown Van Wert

Van Wert Forward is proud to announce the official launch of Phase 2 of its transformative downtown revitalization initiative. With a continued focus on preserving historic character and building for the future, this new phase will breathe new life into several key properties—The Gallery (111 W Main), The Bieber Building (135–137 E Main), 223 E Main, and the Union Block (101–107 W Main).

Phase Two by the Numbers:

  • Total Investment: $19 million

  • Total Development Area: 35,360 square feet

    • Residential Units: 15 units (14,994 square feet)

    • Commercial Spaces: 8 units (20,366 square feet)

  • Local Equity Contribution: $4 million

Each landmark building plays a unique role in the fabric of downtown Van Wert. From retail-ready storefronts to modern apartments and mixed-use spaces, these redevelopments will enhance our historic core’s walkability and livability. Phase 2 continues our mission to create a vibrant and inclusive downtown that serves residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors alike.

A strategic blend of funding sources, including federal and state historic tax creditsnew market tax credits, and significant local equity investment, supports this phase. These tools allow us to leverage national and local resources to make impactful, lasting change without sacrificing the historic integrity of our buildings.

As work begins on The Gallery, The Bieber Building, 223 E Main, and the Union Block, we look forward to sharing progress and stories that showcase how thoughtful redevelopment can create opportunity and connection in the heart of our city.

We are Van Wert Forward—building vibrancy, one block at a time.
